Grading
Students earn grades from four pillars: Literacy, Technique, Social/Civic, Performance
Literacy (40%) - Students will take a variety of written assessments with content surrounding music literacy. Students must show adequate music literacy skills in order to pass this class.
Technique (25%)- Students will be given a daily grade on incorporating proper playing technique into the day to day rehearsals. This includes: proper posture, breathing, embouchure, etc.
Social/Civic (25%)- Students will be given a daily grade which incorporates their social and civic engagement in the day to day rehearsals. This includes: staying engaged during class, encouraging classmates to participate, asking appropriate and thoughtful questions, NOT being on cell phones, etc.
Performance (10%)- As a performing arts class, performance is a vital part of the process. Each student is expected to participate in a performance during the quarter. If a student misses or skips a performance, the student is given a substantial alternative for this portion of the grade.
*There may be field trips throughout the year in which we not only sing/play but possibly participate in other activities. In order for a student to be eligible for this, students must participate in the extra rehearsals.
**Cohasset Visual and Performing Arts Teachers understands that students should be able to participate fully in the arts as well as other academics and sports. There can always be accommodations made for students who have academic, sports, or job conflicts. BE SURE TO COMMUNICATE EARLY AND OFTEN!!
